Whether you’re traveling with friends, a school group, a senior community, or coworkers, the East Coast is home to some of the most thrilling Halloween destinations in the country. Here are some of the best Halloween group trip ideas to check out this spooky season!

1. Haunted Houses and Attractions

For adrenaline seekers, nothing says Halloween like a classic haunted house. The East Coast is packed with terrifying experiences, from historic buildings with real ghost stories to professional haunted attractions designed to make your heart race.

Top Haunted House Destinations:

  • Bennett’s Curse (Baltimore, MD) – Frequently ranked among America’s scariest haunted houses, Bennett’s Curse features immersive sets, live actors, and high-tech effects. It’s perfect for thrill-loving groups.
  • Field of Screams (Mountville, PA) – With haunted hayrides, dark mazes, and intense scare zones, this Pennsylvania favorite is a must for groups looking for a mix of frights and fun.
  • Shocktober (Leesburg, VA) – Located in the historic Carlheim Manor, this haunted attraction combines eerie history with theatrical scares, making it great for Halloween enthusiasts.

When you travel by charter bus, your group can focus on enjoying the night, not finding parking or navigating dark country roads.

2. Ghost Tours in Historic Cities

The East Coast is filled with history and with it, plenty of ghost stories. Ghost tours are ideal for those who love mystery, folklore, and a little spine-tingling suspense. These tours are often educational as well as entertaining, making them a great option for schools, church groups, and families.

Spooky City Tours to Explore:

  • Gettysburg, PA – Known as one of the most haunted towns in America, Gettysburg’s ghost tours explore Civil War battlegrounds and old inns said to be visited by restless spirits.
  • Alexandria, VA – Take a lantern-lit stroll through Old Town and hear chilling tales of the supernatural in one of Virginia’s most historic cities.
  • Annapolis, MD – This waterfront town offers ghost walks that blend colonial history with eerie legends.
  • Philadelphia, PA – Visit America’s oldest neighborhoods and hear stories from the days of the Revolution on a walking ghost tour through haunted Philly.

With Atlantic Coast Charters, your group can visit multiple cities in comfort, turning a ghost tour into a full weekend getaway.

3. Halloween Festivals and Events

Not all Halloween trips have to be scary, many cities and towns celebrate the season with festive parades, costume contests, and fall-themed markets.

Fall Events Worth the Trip:

  • Ocean City’s O.C.toberfest (Ocean City, MD) – Enjoy beachside pumpkin races, dog costume parades, and Halloween fireworks.
  • Rehoboth Beach Sea Witch Festival (Rehoboth, DE) – A family-friendly event featuring parades, trick-or-treating, and a costume pet parade.
  • The Great Jack O’Lantern Blaze (Croton-on-Hudson, NY) – Though a bit farther north, this spectacular display of thousands of hand-carved pumpkins is well worth the trip for groups.

A charter bus makes it easy to bring large groups to these events without worrying about parking, directions, or long drives.

4. College & Alumni Halloween Trips

Halloween isn’t just for kids! Many college students and alumni groups take this season as an opportunity to reconnect through themed trips or haunted getaways. Charter buses are perfect for these occasions, offering a safe, convenient way to travel to parties, haunted attractions, or weekend retreats.

For alumni groups or student organizations, booking a charter bus ensures everyone arrives together and gets home safely, no rideshares or late-night driving required.

5. Pumpkin Patches, Farms & Hayrides

For a lighter Halloween experience, fall farms and pumpkin patches offer the perfect balance of fun and festivity. Group trips to farms often include corn mazes, hayrides, apple picking, and cozy bonfire nights.

Local Favorites:

  • Butler’s Orchard (Germantown, MD) – A fall classic with pumpkins, cider, and farm activities.
  • Milburn Orchards (Elkton, MD) – Great for families and senior groups who enjoy scenic fall landscapes.
  • Maple Lawn Farms (York County, PA) – Known for its massive corn maze and fall festival events.

Why Charter Buses Are the Best Choice for College Sports Team Travel

September 19, 2025

When it comes to college sports, reliable transportation is just as important as the game itself. From football and basketball to track, soccer, and every sport in between, athletes, coaches, and staff need a safe and efficient way to get to competitions. That’s where charter buses come in. For colleges and universities across the Mid-Atlantic region, charter buses have become the go-to solution for sports team travel.

At Atlantic Coast Charters, we understand the unique needs of athletic programs. As the trusted transportation provider for a university in West Virginia that relies on us for all of their sports team travel, we’ve seen firsthand how important it is to have the right partner behind the wheel. Here’s why charter buses are the best choice for college sports team transportation.

Comfort on the Road

Athletes need to arrive at their destination ready to perform, and long road trips can take a toll if the ride isn’t comfortable. Charter buses are designed with comfort in mind, offering:

  • Spacious seating with extra legroom to stretch out

  • Climate-controlled cabins for all-weather travel

  • Onboard restrooms to minimize stops

  • Wi-Fi and power outlets so students can stay connected or complete schoolwork on the road

This level of comfort helps athletes stay relaxed, focused, and game-ready when they step off the bus.

Room for the Entire Team

One of the biggest challenges in college sports travel is moving large groups of people together. Between players, coaches, staff, and equipment, a single van or school bus just won’t cut it.

Charter buses solve this problem with seating capacities of 34, 47, or 55 passengers, ensuring the whole team can travel together. In addition, spacious storage bays make it easy to pack everything from football gear to basketballs, uniforms, and medical kits. No one has to worry about leaving important items behind.

Safety Comes First

Safety is always the top priority when transporting college students. Charter buses are held to the highest safety standards and operated by experienced drivers who are trained to handle group travel.

At Atlantic Coast Charters, our drivers go through:

  • Rigorous background checks

  • Drug and alcohol screenings

  • Regular safety training and certifications

This commitment to safety gives athletic directors, coaches, and parents peace of mind knowing their students are in good hands.

Cost-Effective for Universities

Travel expenses can add up quickly for universities with multiple sports programs. Charter buses provide a cost-effective solution by transporting large groups together, reducing the need for multiple vehicles or costly flights.

With flexible rental options, schools can schedule transportation for single games, full seasons, or even secure exclusive contracts like the one we manage for a West Virginia university’s entire athletics program. This allows for streamlined planning and predictable budgeting year after year.

Building Team Spirit

There’s something special about traveling together as a team. On a charter bus, players and coaches share the ride, bond over conversations, and get motivated for the competition ahead. That sense of unity continues to build throughout the season, making charter buses more than just a ride—they become part of the team experience.

Reliable and Stress-Free Logistics

Coordinating travel for multiple sports teams can be a logistical challenge, especially when games are scheduled back-to-back or in different locations. Working with a professional charter company makes the process simple.

At Atlantic Coast Charters, we handle all the details, including:

  • Pickup and drop-off scheduling

  • Route planning for the most efficient travel

  • Coordinating multiple buses for larger athletic programs

This means coaches and staff can focus on preparing for the game, not the road.

Why Colleges Trust Atlantic Coast Charters

Universities across Pennsylvania, Virginia, Washington DC, Maryland, and Delaware count on Atlantic Coast Charters to get their athletes where they need to be—safely, comfortably, and on time. Our track record includes providing full-service transportation contracts that cover an entire athletic department’s travel needs.

With a modern fleet of buses and a professional team of drivers, we’re proud to support college sports programs and help students succeed both on and off the field.

Book Reliable College Sports Team Transportation

Whether it’s football in the fall, basketball in the winter, or spring track meets, your athletes deserve safe and dependable transportation. Charter buses are the most comfortable, cost-effective, and team-friendly way to travel.

Contact Atlantic Coast Charters today to learn how we can support your university’s athletic travel needs with reliable charter bus rentals. From single trips to full athletic department contracts, we’re here to make every journey a winning one.

Senior Casino Trips: What to Expect and How to Prepare

August 19, 2025

For many seniors, a casino trip offers more than just games and flashing lights—it’s a chance to enjoy an exciting outing filled with entertainment, dining, and camaraderie. Whether you’re organizing a day trip for a senior center, a retirement community, or just planning a getaway with friends, chartering a bus for your casino adventure makes the journey as enjoyable as the destination.

At Atlantic Coast Charters, we specialize in safe, comfortable, and stress-free transportation for seniors across Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, Virginia, and Washington, D.C. If you’re planning a casino trip for your group, here’s what you can expect and how to prepare to make the most of the experience.

Why Seniors Love Casino Trips

Casino trips are a favorite among seniors for several good reasons:

  • Entertainment variety: From slot machines and bingo to poker tables and live shows, there’s something for everyone.

  • Dining and social time: Many casinos offer buffet-style meals, cafes, and lounges, perfect for relaxing and catching up with friends.

  • Affordable fun: Many casinos provide special perks or discounts for seniors, including free play, meal vouchers, or show tickets.

  • Easy group planning: With charter buses, traveling to casinos becomes easy, safe, and convenient for larger senior groups.

Choosing the Right Casino

Popular destinations like Atlantic City, NJ, or Ocean City, MD, feature a variety of casinos that cater to seniors. When choosing a casino for your group, consider the following:

  • Accessibility: Ensure the casino is wheelchair-friendly and easy to navigate.

  • Senior programs: Look for casinos that offer promotions or loyalty programs specifically for seniors.

  • Dining options: Check if there are group-friendly dining areas or discounted senior meals.

  • On-site entertainment: From musical acts to comedy shows, entertainment options can elevate the entire experience.

If you’re not sure where to go, the Atlantic Coast Charters team can help you choose the best casino destination based on your group’s size, location, and preferences.

What to Pack for a Comfortable Trip

Here’s a quick list of essentials seniors should bring for a fun and stress-free casino trip:

  • Valid photo ID: Required for entrance, play, or claiming prizes.

  • Comfortable clothing and walking shoes: Casinos can be large, so wear something that allows for easy movement.

  • Medications: Always carry any necessary medications, especially for longer trips.

  • Spending money or player’s card: Bring cash or cards if you plan to gamble or shop. Most casinos also offer preloaded player’s cards.

  • Light sweater or jacket: Casinos often keep the air conditioning on full blast.

  • Snacks and water: While the bus ride may be short, it’s helpful to have a few small snacks and a water bottle on hand.

Tips for a Safe and Enjoyable Casino Trip

  • Stick with the group: If you’re part of a senior travel group, staying together ensures a smoother and safer experience.

  • Set a budget: Gambling is more fun when you set a spending limit ahead of time.

  • Plan rest breaks: Casinos can be exciting and overwhelming, so take regular breaks to sit, hydrate, and recharge.

  • Use the amenities: Many casinos offer lounges, wellness centers, and quiet areas—great for those who want to take a break from the gaming floor.

  • Ask about promotions: Don’t be shy—casinos often have special deals just for seniors or first-time guests.

Why Charter a Bus for Your Senior Casino Trip?

At Atlantic Coast Charters, we know that the ride can make or break the experience—especially for seniors. That’s why our charter buses are designed with comfort, safety, and accessibility in mind.

  • Comfortable seating: Reclining seats with extra legroom for long rides.

  • ADA-compliant options: We offer accessible buses to accommodate all mobility needs.

  • Professional drivers: Experienced, courteous, and safety-focused.

How to Plan a Casino Bus Trip: Atlantic City & Ocean City Adventures Made Easy

May 6, 2025

There’s nothing quite like the excitement of a casino getaway—bright lights, entertainment, endless gaming, and unforgettable moments with friends. Whether you’re organizing a day trip for a club, a weekend getaway for coworkers, or a special outing for a celebration, casino bus trips to Atlantic City or Ocean City are the perfect way to combine fun, relaxation, and convenience. And with Atlantic Coast Charters at the wheel, you can leave the driving, parking, and planning stress behind.

Here’s everything you need to know to plan a successful and smooth casino bus trip for your group.

Step 1: Choose Your Casino Destination

The first step is deciding where you want to go. For most groups in the Mid-Atlantic, Atlantic City, NJ, and Ocean City, MD, are top choices thanks to their vibrant casino scenes and coastal charm.

Atlantic City, New Jersey

Known as the Las Vegas of the East Coast, Atlantic City offers iconic boardwalk vibes, glamorous casinos, and non-stop entertainment. Popular spots include:

  • Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa – High-end experience with poker, slots, fine dining, and spa options.

  • Caesars Atlantic City – Classic Vegas-style gaming, upscale restaurants, and a prime location near the boardwalk.

  • Tropicana Atlantic City – Perfect for groups looking for entertainment, shopping, and gaming in one place.

Ocean City, Maryland

Ocean City isn’t traditionally known for casinos, but it’s a fantastic base for relaxing by the beach, dining out, and enjoying nearby gaming action. The Ocean Downs Casino, located just minutes away in Berlin, MD, offers:

  • Slot machines

  • Electronic table games

  • Seasonal live harness racing

  • On-site dining and bar

For groups who want a mix of coastal leisure and light gaming, Ocean City is an ideal destination.

Step 2: Set a Date and Build a Timeline

Once you’ve chosen your destination, pick a date that works for your group. Be sure to consider holidays, weekends, and special events at the casino, which can make your trip even more exciting (but may also require early booking).

Then, outline your itinerary:

  • Departure Time

  • Estimated Arrival

  • Casino Time/Activities

  • Meal Plans or Buffet Stops

  • Return Departure

  • Estimated Return Time

Leave some flexibility for extra fun, shopping, or sightseeing around the boardwalk or beach.

Step 3: Book Your Charter Bus Early

The earlier you book your transportation, the better. At Atlantic Coast Charters, we offer a variety of modern charter buses, perfect for casino trips of all sizes. Our buses range from 34 to 55 passengers and come equipped with features to make your ride enjoyable and relaxing:

  • Onboard restrooms

  • Free Wi-Fi

  • Reclining seats

  • Air conditioning & climate control

  • ADA-accessible options

  • TV monitors and audio systems

Not only do we make your journey comfortable, but we also handle logistics like route planning, parking coordination, and pickup/drop-off schedules—so you can focus on having a great time.

Step 4: Promote the Trip and Collect RSVPs

If you’re planning a group casino trip for a club, church group, alumni association, or team, make sure everyone knows the details. Use flyers, email lists, group chats, or social media to promote the event. Include:

  • Date and time

  • Pickup location

  • Cost per person (including any extras like meals or tickets)

  • What to bring (ID, cash/cards, comfortable clothes)

It’s helpful to assign someone to keep track of RSVPs, collect payments if necessary, and communicate updates as the trip approaches.

Step 5: Add Extra Fun to the Ride

The journey is part of the experience! Consider adding a little flair to the bus ride:

  • Games and raffles: Offer small prizes or play casino trivia

  • Snacks and drinks: Bring light refreshments for the group (check with the charter company for guidelines)

  • Music or playlist: Set the mood with a fun travel playlist

  • Trip packets: Include itineraries, casino maps, vouchers, or fun facts about your destination

These small touches go a long way in building excitement and making the bus ride enjoyable for everyone.

Step 6: Enjoy Your Time at the Casino

Whether you’re there to hit the slots, play a few hands at the blackjack table, catch a show, or just relax by the ocean, your casino bus trip should be as stress-free as possible. Thanks to your planning and the convenience of having a charter bus waiting outside, you can focus on enjoying every minute with your group.

Just be sure to communicate your return time to everyone clearly and check in with your Atlantic Coast Charters driver for any last-minute updates.

What Types of Events Can I Charter a Bus For?

April 12, 2025

With group transportation, few options are as convenient, comfortable, and cost-effective as a charter bus. But what types of events can you charter a bus for?

At Atlantic Coast Charters, we serve all kinds of groups and organizations throughout Maryland and beyond. Here’s a look at some of the most common—and most useful—occasions for renting a charter bus.

1. School Field Trips

4. Sports Team Travel

Charter buses are perfect for transporting athletes, coaches, and fans to games and tournaments. With plenty of space for gear and comfortable seating for long rides, everyone arrives ready to play—or cheer.

5. Concerts, Festivals, and Entertainment Events

Skip the traffic and parking stress. Charter a bus for a night out at a concert, theater performance, or local festival. It’s a fun, safe way for your group to enjoy an event together.

How Many People Can a Charter Bus Hold?

April 6, 2025

When planning a group trip, one of the first questions that comes up is: how many people can a charter bus hold? Whether you’re coordinating a school field trip, a corporate outing, a wedding shuttle, or a church retreat, understanding the seating capacity of your transportation can help ensure a smooth travel experience.

Typical Charter Bus Capacities

Charter buses come in various sizes to suit different group needs. At Atlantic Coast Charters, we operate a fleet of well-maintained motorcoaches with seating configurations that can accommodate a wide range of group sizes:

  • 55-passenger bus: Our largest option, suitable for full class field trips, church groups, wedding parties, and other large gatherings.

Each of these buses is designed with comfort in mind, offering features such as reclining seats, air conditioning, Wi-Fi, onboard restrooms, and ADA accessibility upon request.

Choosing the Right Bus Size for Your Group

Selecting the right bus size depends on more than just headcount. Consider the following factors:

  • Group Size: The most obvious consideration—ensure that every passenger has a designated seat.
  • Luggage Requirements: Will your group be carrying luggage, equipment, or supplies? Larger groups with baggage may require a bigger bus or undercarriage storage.
  • Trip Duration: Longer trips may benefit from larger buses that offer more space and amenities to enhance comfort.
  • Accessibility Needs: If your group includes individuals with mobility needs, let us know. We have ADA-accessible buses available.

Our team is happy to help you assess your needs and match your group with the perfect vehicle.

Advantages of Traveling by Charter Bus

Charter buses aren’t just about capacity—they offer a host of benefits that make them a superior option for group travel:

  • Comfort: Spacious seating, climate control, and onboard amenities make long trips more enjoyable.
  • Safety: Our professional drivers are fully vetted and experienced, and our fleet is routinely inspected and maintained to the highest standards.
  • Convenience: Travel together as a group without the stress of coordinating multiple cars, stops, or parking.

Elevate Your Corporate Retreat: Fresh Ideas for Memorable Team Experiences

February 25, 2025

Corporate retreats serve as vital opportunities to strengthen team bonds, align organizational goals, and inspire innovation. The key to a successful retreat lies in creating experiences that seamlessly blend professional development with meaningful team interactions. Let’s explore some innovative corporate retreat ideas that will transform your next team gathering into an unforgettable event.

Reimagining the Traditional Retreat

The landscape of corporate retreats has evolved significantly in recent years. While PowerPoint presentations and conference rooms still have their place, modern retreats focus on creating immersive experiences that foster genuine connections and lasting impact. The Mid-Atlantic region, with its diverse venues and activities, provides an ideal setting for these transformed corporate gatherings.

Location Selection: Setting the Stage for Success

When selecting a venue for your corporate retreat, consider locations that inspire creativity and promote open communication. Maryland’s diverse landscape offers multiple compelling options. The serene Chesapeake Bay region provides waterfront venues perfect for combining business sessions with outdoor activities. Meanwhile, the rolling hills of Western Maryland offer secluded settings ideal for focused strategy sessions and team building.

Innovative Activity Integration

The most successful corporate retreat ideas incorporate activities that serve multiple purposes. Consider organizing a cooking competition at one of Baltimore’s renowned culinary schools. This activity not only provides entertainment but also develops crucial skills like communication, time management, and leadership. Similarly, organizing a community service project at a local nonprofit can strengthen team bonds while making a positive impact on the community.

Professional Development with Purpose

Modern corporate retreats should balance professional growth with engaging activities. Instead of traditional lectures, consider interactive workshops where teams solve real business challenges. Bring in local industry experts for hands-on sessions that combine learning with practical application. These experiences prove more memorable and effective than conventional presentations.

Wellness and Mindfulness Integration

Corporate wellness has become increasingly important in recent years. Incorporate mindfulness sessions, guided meditation, or morning yoga classes into your retreat schedule. These activities help reduce stress, increase focus, and provide tools that team members can use long after the retreat ends.

Technology and Innovation

Leverage technology to enhance your retreat experience. Use team-building apps for scavenger hunts throughout historic Maryland towns. Implement virtual reality experiences for innovative problem-solving exercises. These tech-forward activities appeal to diverse team members while fostering collaboration and creativity.

Transportation: The Foundation of Success

A seamless retreat experience begins with reliable transportation. Atlantic Coast Charters specializes in corporate retreat transportation, offering several advantages that enhance your event:

Modern Fleet Amenities

Our executive-style buses provide comfortable seating, Wi-Fi connectivity, and climate control, allowing your team to remain productive and comfortable throughout the journey. The travel time becomes an extension of your retreat, rather than merely a means to reach your destination.

Professional Experience

Our experienced drivers understand corporate event timing and professional etiquette. They ensure punctual arrivals and departures, allowing you to focus on your retreat objectives rather than logistical concerns.

Flexible Solutions

We accommodate multiple pickup locations, custom schedules, and last-minute changes, providing the flexibility needed for complex corporate events.

Planning for Success

Start your retreat planning early, ideally three to six months in advance. This timeline allows for venue selection, activity booking, and transportation arrangement. Consider seasonal factors when planning outdoor activities, and always have indoor alternatives ready.

Measuring Impact

Implement methods to measure your retreat’s success beyond participant satisfaction surveys. Set specific objectives before the retreat and evaluate their achievement afterward. This data proves valuable for planning future events and demonstrating ROI to stakeholders.

Ready to Transform Your Corporate Retreat?

Let Atlantic Coast Charters help you create an unforgettable corporate retreat experience. Our dedicated team will handle all your transportation needs, allowing you to focus on what matters most – your team’s growth and development.

Delicious and Convenient: Top Bus Trip Food Ideas for Group Travel

February 25, 2025

Planning the perfect meal strategy for a group bus trip requires thoughtful consideration of convenience, nutrition, and practicality. Whether you’re organizing a school field trip, corporate outing, or family reunion, having the right bus trip food ideas can transform a long journey into an enjoyable experience. Let’s explore how to keep your group satisfied while maintaining a clean and comfortable travel environment.

Understanding Bus Trip Food Essentials

When selecting food for your bus journey, several factors deserve careful consideration. Temperature control, ease of consumption, minimal mess, and dietary restrictions all play crucial roles in choosing appropriate options. The goal is to maintain energy levels while avoiding items that could create discomfort or require extensive cleanup.

Smart Packaging Solutions

Before diving into specific bus trip food ideas, let’s address the importance of proper packaging. Consider using:

Individual portion containers that seal completely help prevent spills and make distribution easier. Resealable bags allow travelers to save portions for later, reducing waste. Disposable utensils and napkins packaged separately ensure cleanliness throughout the journey. Small coolers or insulated bags help maintain food at safe temperatures.

Breakfast Options for Morning Departures

Starting your journey in the morning requires energizing yet manageable breakfast choices. Consider these options:

Whole grain muffins provide sustained energy without crumbling. Individually wrapped breakfast bars offer convenient nutrition. Fresh fruit like apples and bananas travel well and provide natural energy. Yogurt cups with granola (packed separately) create a filling breakfast option.

Lunch and Dinner Solutions

For longer trips requiring substantial meals, focus on items that satisfy hunger without creating mess:

Wraps hold their contents better than traditional sandwiches and can include various fillings to accommodate different preferences. Pasta salads in sealed containers provide a filling option that doesn’t require heating. Chicken or tuna salad containers with crackers offer protein-rich alternatives. Pre-cut vegetables with individual hummus portions create healthy, satisfying snacks.

Snack Selections for Any Time

Snacks play a crucial role in maintaining energy and satisfaction during long journeys. Consider these options:

Trail mix in individual portions combines protein and carbohydrates for sustained energy. Dried fruits provide natural sweetness without the mess of fresh fruits. Cheese and crackers in pre-packaged portions offer satisfying protein. Granola bars and protein bars provide quick energy boosts.

Hydration Considerations

Proper hydration remains essential during bus travel. However, managing beverage consumption requires planning:

Water bottles with secure caps prevent spills and maintain hydration. Sports drinks in sealed containers help replace electrolytes during long trips. Juice boxes provide convenient portions for younger travelers. Consider providing straws to reduce spill risks.

Special Dietary Considerations

Modern group travel often requires attention to various dietary needs:

Gluten-free options should be clearly labeled and separated. Vegetarian and vegan alternatives ensure all travelers have appropriate choices. Nut-free selections help protect those with allergies. Sugar-free options accommodate diabetic travelers.

Food Safety During Travel

Maintaining food safety during your journey requires attention to several factors:

Use ice packs for perishable items to maintain safe temperatures. Pack hand sanitizer and wet wipes for proper hygiene. Consider the journey duration when selecting perishable items. Keep a food thermometer handy for monitoring perishable items.

Atlantic Coast Charters’ Commitment to Comfortable Travel

At Atlantic Coast Charters, we understand that comfortable travel includes accommodating your group’s dining needs:

Our modern buses feature climate-controlled environments ideal for food storage. We provide ample storage space for coolers and food containers. Our professional drivers understand the importance of scheduled meal breaks. We can recommend ideal stop locations for food breaks along your route.

Travel Tips from Experience

Through years of providing group transportation, we’ve gathered valuable insights:

Schedule regular breaks for proper meals at appropriate facilities. Consider local food options along your route for fresh meals. Pack extra supplies for unexpected delays. Maintain a list of dietary restrictions for all travelers.

Plan Your Perfect Journey

Planning the Ultimate Large Family Vacation: Bus Trip Edition

November 5, 2024

Family vacations are about bonding, making memories, and enjoying each other’s company. But when planning a trip for a large family, coordinating schedules, transportation, and activities can quickly become overwhelming. One of the best ways to ensure a smooth, enjoyable trip is by opting for a chartered bus, especially when exploring the beautiful destinations around Maryland, D.C., and Virginia. At Atlantic Coast Charters, we know how to make a large family vacation a breeze with comfortable, reliable, and stress-free travel options. Here’s your guide to planning the ultimate family bus trip that everyone will love.

1. Choose the Perfect Destination

Start by selecting a destination that caters to all ages and interests. When planning a large family trip, it’s important to consider options that offer something for everyone. Whether it’s a bustling city adventure in Washington, D.C., a nature retreat in Shenandoah National Park, or a family-friendly day at the National Aquarium in Baltimore, the tri-state area has plenty to offer.

Here are a few popular destinations for large family vacations in the region:

  • Washington, D.C. – From iconic monuments and museums to scenic parks, there’s something for every family member.
  • Baltimore, Maryland – Explore the Inner Harbor, the National Aquarium, and historic sites for an educational yet fun experience.
  • Virginia Beach – Perfect for families who want a coastal escape, with sandy beaches, boardwalks, and watersports.

Once you’ve chosen your destination, Atlantic Coast Charters can make sure you get there safely and comfortably, allowing everyone to start enjoying the vacation as soon as they board the bus.

2. Map Out Family-Friendly Activities

Once you’ve picked a destination, research activities that cater to a wide range of ages and preferences. Large families often include grandparents, young children, teens, and adults, so variety is key.

Here are some activity ideas that work well for large family groups:

  • City Tours: For a place like Washington, D.C., or Baltimore, consider a guided city tour, where you can explore key attractions with knowledgeable guides. Atlantic Coast Charters can handle the transportation, allowing you to hop off and on at major points of interest.
  • Outdoor Adventures: Parks like Shenandoah National Park offer great options for hiking, picnics, and scenic views, ideal for families who enjoy the outdoors. A charter bus makes it easy to bring along gear and supplies for a full day of outdoor fun.
  • Amusement Parks: Spend a day at an amusement park, such as Six Flags America in Maryland, where kids, teens, and adults alike can enjoy rides, games, and shows.

Planning activities in advance ensures a smooth itinerary that balances fun with relaxation for everyone.

3. Make a Family-Friendly Itinerary

An organized itinerary is crucial for large family vacations, especially when relying on a charter bus to handle your travel needs. An itinerary should include not just destination stops but also time slots for meals, rest breaks, and free time. For example, you might spend the morning touring museums, take a break for lunch at a local restaurant, then enjoy free time at a nearby park or attraction.

With a charter bus, you have the added benefit of flexibility in your itinerary. Our team at Atlantic Coast Charters can help you plan rest stops, meal breaks, and any detours you’d like to add. Plus, with comfortable seating, restroom facilities, and onboard entertainment, the journey itself becomes part of the vacation experience.

4. Pack Essentials for Group Comfort

Packing for a large family can feel overwhelming, but with a chartered bus, you have plenty of storage space for all your travel essentials. To keep everyone comfortable and entertained, consider the following:

  • Comfort items like blankets, travel pillows, and snacks to keep everyone cozy during the ride.
  • Games and activities for children and teens, like travel-sized board games, coloring books, and electronic devices with preloaded movies or games.
  • Essentials for parents and caregivers, including medications, first-aid kits, and personal care items.

With ample room for luggage, coolers, and other gear, Atlantic Coast Charters makes packing for a large family easier. Our buses are equipped with features to make the journey comfortable and enjoyable for every family member.

5. Coordinate Meals and Dining Stops

One of the biggest challenges of a large family vacation is keeping everyone fed and happy. When planning your itinerary, research family-friendly restaurants at your destination and along the route. For example, a stop in Baltimore might include a classic crab cake meal, while a picnic lunch at a scenic overlook in Shenandoah can be a special experience.

Our team can help you coordinate dining stops or even provide suggestions for food destinations that accommodate large groups. Whether you choose sit-down dining or a casual picnic, our charter bus service makes it easy to keep everyone nourished and satisfied.

6. Capture the Memories

What’s a family trip without capturing the memories? Large family vacations are full of picture-perfect moments, so encourage everyone to bring their cameras or smartphones. Our comfortable charter buses can make multiple stops at scenic locations, ensuring you have plenty of opportunities to get great group photos. Consider assigning a “family photographer” to document the adventure so you’ll have a cherished album of photos to look back on.

Must-Visit Universities in Baltimore: Travel via A Private Charter Bus

January 9, 2023

Deciding which college to apply to can be a very stressful and nerve-wracking experience for many students. Parents and teachers can help them feel less anxious by arranging a visit to some or all of these schools via a charter bus. Visiting colleges before they apply helps students get a better feel for potential schools and empower them to make an informed choice on where to spend the next four years.

A charter bus rental for college tours is a much more convenient and cost-effective option than other forms of transportation. Flights are expensive while traveling by car or public transport is inconvenient and time-consuming. You are welcome to contact Atlantic Coast Charters to inquire about our charter bus rental for college tours.

Colleges in Baltimore You Should Tour

Baltimore has many excellent public and private colleges and universities, making it a great place to go on a college tour. Here are some excellent institutes of higher learning that students should consider exploring.

Johns Hopkins University

Widely regarded as one of the most prestigious universities in the United States, Johns Hopkins University (JHU) consistently ranks in the top 10 universities in the country. While it’s known for its medical programs, it offers over 400 programs in business, arts and music, engineering, education and more. Notable alumni of this university include groundbreaking physicians like Virginia Apgar, Pulitzer Prize-winners like James McPherson and politicians like President Woodrow Wilson.

The 140-acre North Baltimore campus is in an urban environment, with tree-lined paths and many green spaces. It has residence halls, athletic and recreation facilities, research laboratories, museums and more. JHU is also home to The Peabody Institute, the country’s first conservatory, and the Centre Theater, which houses the Center for Visual Arts.

JHU’s Office of Undergraduate Admissions leads college tours on most weekdays as well as on some Saturdays. The school offers a two-hour tour called Experience Hopkins that includes a student panel as well as an information session. Be warned, however, that this tour must be booked in advance. JHU is currently not accepting walk-ins.

Registered visitors can park in the following spaces:

  • South Garage
  • San Martin Garage
  • North Visitor Lot
  • Metered Faculty areas

Keep in mind that parking anywhere else on campus can result in a ticket, which will definitely put a damper on your tour.

University of Maryland, Baltimore County

When you book your charter bus rental for college tours, don’t forget to include UMBC in your itinerary. In terms of programs, the school offers something for everyone. The school offers programs and degrees in over ten areas of study, including the arts, education, human services, policy/government, science and computing.

A must-visit to get a feel for student life is The Commons, which is the school’s student center. It has a food court, restaurant, bookstore, game room and bank. Its terrace overlooks an Olympic-sized swimming pool and is a popular venue for social events, performances and concerts.

UMBC offers college tours, open hours and in-person events. Schedules vary widely, so it’s best to check their Campus Tour page for available dates. Be sure to register ahead of time, as the school is taking precautions against COVID-19 and might not accept walk-in tours. You should also drop by the Albin O. Kuhn Library. It’s open to the public and has an amazing collection of over one million books.

There is plenty of Pay-to-Park visitor parking lots in UBMC, including:

  • Administration Drive Garage on the upper level.
  • Walker Avenue Garage on the upper level.
  • Commons Garage on the first level.

Visitors can pay for parking with cash (exact currency), Visa or Mastercard. You may also use your phone to pay if you have the Passport Parking app.

Loyola University Maryland

This private liberal arts college was founded in 1852 and is among the oldest Jesuit colleges in the U.S. It has more than 4,000 undergraduates taking its bachelor programs, such as psychology, political science and government, creative writing, biochemistry and applied mathematics.

There are more than 200 special interest clubs, academic clubs and honor societies that students can join. These make it easy for new students to feel welcomed and included.

Loyola University Maryland is famous for its beauty. It was ranked number one in Niche’s “Best College Campuses in Maryland” for two consecutive years for this reason. When you’re there, enjoy viewing the lush foliage in the Arboretum. You should also check out the Kelly Family Outdoor Classroom and the spacious residence halls.

Loyola University Maryland offers information sessions and college tours throughout the year, as well as a fall open house. For either option, visitors must register in advance via their website.

GU works with non-profits, community organizations and high schools to accommodate up to 50 people to tour the campus.
