Anyone who drives regularly is all too familiar with the hundreds of challenges and road hazards on any given day. This is especially true for highway driving where speed limits raise the level of complexity as does the number of motorists. Add some rain or snow in there, and it can be ‘white knuckle city.’ For charter bus drivers, in good weather and bad, have an incredible responsibility to stay alert, safe and ready to react quickly to not only protect their passengers, but also those around them.
At Atlantic Coast Charters, we have a strong history of safety and reliability. Our drivers keep current with all ongoing training requirements and safety standards in the industry. Not to mention the regular maintenance of our fleet to ensure the highest safety standards that we guarantee our riders. Going above and beyond, we make safety a top priority for example, we keep the following not so obvious things top of mind during every trip:
Keep an eye on the blind angle
Especially true when turning or changing lanes, we stay aware of all other vehicles that are close to our vehicle.
Careful lane changes
Unless there’s ample room for a lane change that won’t force other drivers to make a sudden move or deceleration, our drivers won’t make the move.
Keep a distance
The faster the speed, the greater distance between vehicles is required. Safe distances in rain, mud, snow and ice conditions multiplies that distance.
Anticipate
Our drivers stay alert and keep their head on a swivel. There are any number of distractions or interruptions during any trip. Anticipating these hazards minimize braking or sudden acceleration which can be dangerous to others on the road.
Respecting the speed limit
Driving at designated speed limits at all times and conditions protects the lives of others as well those of the driver.
Adapt
When road conditions change, our drivers carefully adapt their driving to ensure safety. Whether it’s rain, fog, ice or simply driving through tunnels, these factors all make an impact on how our drivers maintain a consistently safe experience.
