Must-Visit Universities in Baltimore: Travel via A Private Charter Bus

Deciding which college to apply to can be a very stressful and nerve-wracking experience for many students. Parents and teachers can help them feel less anxious by arranging a visit to some or all of these schools via a charter bus. Visiting colleges before they apply helps students get a better feel for potential schools and empower them to make an informed choice on where to spend the next four years.

A charter bus rental for college tours is a much more convenient and cost-effective option than other forms of transportation. Flights are expensive while traveling by car or public transport is inconvenient and time-consuming. You are welcome to contact Atlantic Coast Charters to inquire about our charter bus rental for college tours.

Colleges in Baltimore You Should Tour

Baltimore has many excellent public and private colleges and universities, making it a great place to go on a college tour. Here are some excellent institutes of higher learning that students should consider exploring.

Johns Hopkins University

Widely regarded as one of the most prestigious universities in the United States, Johns Hopkins University (JHU) consistently ranks in the top 10 universities in the country. While it’s known for its medical programs, it offers over 400 programs in business, arts and music, engineering, education and more. Notable alumni of this university include groundbreaking physicians like Virginia Apgar, Pulitzer Prize-winners like James McPherson and politicians like President Woodrow Wilson.

The 140-acre North Baltimore campus is in an urban environment, with tree-lined paths and many green spaces. It has residence halls, athletic and recreation facilities, research laboratories, museums and more. JHU is also home to The Peabody Institute, the country’s first conservatory, and the Centre Theater, which houses the Center for Visual Arts.

JHU’s Office of Undergraduate Admissions leads college tours on most weekdays as well as on some Saturdays. The school offers a two-hour tour called Experience Hopkins that includes a student panel as well as an information session. Be warned, however, that this tour must be booked in advance. JHU is currently not accepting walk-ins.

Registered visitors can park in the following spaces:

  • South Garage
  • San Martin Garage
  • North Visitor Lot
  • Metered Faculty areas

Keep in mind that parking anywhere else on campus can result in a ticket, which will definitely put a damper on your tour.

University of Maryland, Baltimore County

When you book your charter bus rental for college tours, don’t forget to include UMBC in your itinerary. In terms of programs, the school offers something for everyone. The school offers programs and degrees in over ten areas of study, including the arts, education, human services, policy/government, science and computing.

A must-visit to get a feel for student life is The Commons, which is the school’s student center. It has a food court, restaurant, bookstore, game room and bank. Its terrace overlooks an Olympic-sized swimming pool and is a popular venue for social events, performances and concerts.

UMBC offers college tours, open hours and in-person events. Schedules vary widely, so it’s best to check their Campus Tour page for available dates. Be sure to register ahead of time, as the school is taking precautions against COVID-19 and might not accept walk-in tours. You should also drop by the Albin O. Kuhn Library. It’s open to the public and has an amazing collection of over one million books.

There is plenty of Pay-to-Park visitor parking lots in UBMC, including:

  • Administration Drive Garage on the upper level.
  • Walker Avenue Garage on the upper level.
  • Commons Garage on the first level.

Visitors can pay for parking with cash (exact currency), Visa or Mastercard. You may also use your phone to pay if you have the Passport Parking app.

Loyola University Maryland

This private liberal arts college was founded in 1852 and is among the oldest Jesuit colleges in the U.S. It has more than 4,000 undergraduates taking its bachelor programs, such as psychology, political science and government, creative writing, biochemistry and applied mathematics.

There are more than 200 special interest clubs, academic clubs and honor societies that students can join. These make it easy for new students to feel welcomed and included.

Loyola University Maryland is famous for its beauty. It was ranked number one in Niche’s “Best College Campuses in Maryland” for two consecutive years for this reason. When you’re there, enjoy viewing the lush foliage in the Arboretum. You should also check out the Kelly Family Outdoor Classroom and the spacious residence halls.

Loyola University Maryland offers information sessions and college tours throughout the year, as well as a fall open house. For either option, visitors must register in advance via their website.
